Burst watermelons with X-Men like brainwaves

The term ‘mind games’ often carries with it a negative connotation, a will to confound or harm someone but Chris and Brad from Louisville, Kentucky have given an all new dimension to the term which stands for nothing but innocuous fun. Stand aloof and don’t even use your hands, play Darth Vader for a change. Kentucky based Hackerspace LVL-1 has made use of Star Wars Force Trainer which in scientific terms would be something akin to an electroencephalograph (EEG) which is used to scan brain waves.

The device uses human concentration as means of action. When a certain level of concentration is achieved, the device triggers an action. However, the element of excitement is different altogether with this off the shelf force trainer. In the original Star wars inspired device, the reaction of the device was merely turning on of a fan and pushing up of a ball through a plastic tower, whereas in the LVL’s device, the result of concentrating is the bursting of a nearby melon. Hence LVL1’s concept is rightly christened “mind over melon”. Now how does that work? Well, instead of being connected to a fan, the custom rig links the force trainer to an air compressor. The signals are handled by Arduino based electronics. When the concentration achieves the requisite level, the compressor expels a violent burst of air which bursts the watermelon to smithereens!
