Green Gym: A gym that generates electricity while you workout

The Great Outdoor Gym Company has created a fitness center in UK that helps folks generate electricity by working out. This fitness center features a gym with equipments which when used can turn human power into electric watts. The gym is located in a city park in Hull, northeast England and has currently generated 40 kilowatts/ 40,000 watt hours of power.

Georgie Delaney, the creative director of the Great Outdoor Gym Company is quiet focused on making these kinds of gyms a part of ‘English’ routine, helping people in getting active. This gym has been built with a viewpoint of generating a Kilowatt of power each day and serving 5000 people. At present the gym is powering its own lighting system but the company hopes to supply the power at a national level by building more gyms like this, it will ultimately reduce the electricity bills of whole nation.

It cost around $100,000 to set up a prototype in Hull but the company is working on cheaper model of $32,000 that would charge cell phones and other gadgets. Also, a larger gym that would cost $130,000 is in the making where power could be fed back to the grid.
